Crockerton House, situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Wylye Valley only 20 miles from Bath, Salisbury and Stonehenge, makes an ideal base for exploring Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset.
Originally part of Lord Bath’s Longleat estate, some of the Grade II listed house dates from 1669; in 1921 the property was purchased by Lord Heytesbury who lived here till 1949. Twelve months of sympathetic restoration have rejuvenated the property to its earlier splendour.
The house is set in over an acre of glorious gardens overlooking meadows leading down to the River Wylye. The grounds provide a sanctuary for birds and wildlife with towering coniferous trees, tall hedges, sweeping lawns, herbaceous borders, orchard and kitchen garden.
We have three spacious bedrooms on the first floor overlooking the gardens. Full of character, each room also meets the needs of today's traveller with flat screen TV, complimentary wireless broadband internet access, radio/alarm, hairdryer, ironing facilities, hospitality tray, flowers, fresh fruit and homemade biscuits. Well-appointed bathrooms are equipped with large towels, bathrobes and toiletries.
From Monday to Thursday enjoy a candle-lit dinner seated at the long table by the ancient inglenook or eat out in a local country pub. After a good night's sleep, saunter downstairs to begin your day with a delicious breakfast.
We use fresh local produce, organic meat, chicken and eggs, farmhouse cheeses, and freshly ground coffee. In season, fruit and vegetables from the garden are regularly served. Cooking on an Aga, Enid produces a large range of homemade foods including jam, bread, cakes and ice cream.
Warminster is only two miles away and its prosperity as a wool town and corn market in the 18th century has left a heritage of beautiful houses, mullion-windowed cottages and numerous antique shops.
