Chetcombe House is an elegant and cosy country house set in an acre of lovely gardens and located just a few minutes’ walking distance from the centre of the charming Wiltshire town of Mere.  It is the home of Sandra Rose and Jerry Meyer who do everything possible to ensure guests have an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

The house was built in 1937 and provides an excellent standard of accommodation with 5 en-suite bedrooms (1 x family room, 3 x double rooms and 1 x twin room) all of which have television and tea/coffee making facilities.

Hospitality trays include home made cookies and cakes, and handmade toiletries are provided in the bathrooms.  The gardens face south giving wonderful views to Shaftesbury and the Blackmore Vale, an area made famous in the novels of Thomas Hardy.

Breakfast is served each morning in the dining room/guest lounge overlooking the gardens and includes fresh fruit, yoghurts, juice, toast, muesli and cereals together with a choice of tea or coffee.  A traditional English cooked breakfast is always available and on most days alternatives are offered (such as American pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup, or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs).

The town of Mere dates back to Saxon times and has been part of the Duchy of Cornwall for centuries.  Richard Earl of Cornwall built a castle in the town in the first half of the 13th century – the castle no longer exists but the site now provides a splendid viewpoint across the beautiful surrounding countryside.   Mere offers some lovely walks and is on the route of the Wiltshire cycle way.

Much of the area around the town is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Guests to Chetcombe House often book for 1 night and stay longer once they discover the wealth of attractions and the beauty of the countryside to be enjoyed locally, such as Stourhead National Trust House and Gardens, King Alfred’s Tower and Longleat House and Safari Park .
