Netherwood Lodge, once a coach house, is now a delightful rural retreat, close to the A22, Glyndebourne, Lewes and Eastbourne.
This quiet part of Sussex is ideal for walking and golf, with the historic town of Lewes, its antique shops and famous Bills Restaurant, 20 minutes away by car. The Opera House at Glyndebourne is only 15 minutes away and Charleston Farmhouse home to the Bloomsbury set (Vanessa Bell and Virginia Wolf) nearby.
The village of Chiddingly, mentioned in the Doomsday book, has a scenic cricket ground and is famous for its annual music festival, this year celebrating 30 years. The lovely, historic church and Six Bells pub are a walk away from Netherwood Lodge. Farley Farm was the home of the world-renowned photographer Lee Miller and Sir Roland Penrose famous surreal artists. Picasso was once a guest.
We pride ourselves on our delicious home-made fare to include bread, yoghurt, marmalade, jam and cakes. Most ingredients are locally sourced and cooked imaginatively.
The price for accommodation includes a full English breakfast. This is served in the dining room and overlooks the garden, that has been part of the open gardens’ scheme for charity.
We are fortunate to be able to enjoy the Eastbourne International tennis tournament Devonshire Park in June and Glyndebourne during the opera season.
There are also local theatres, museums, sailing clubs, the beach, glorious sea front gardens golf clubs including East Sussex National Golf Club and a great variety of National Trust houses to visit. Many people come to walk the South Downs Way or enjoy the local countryside.
