Bucks House is a beautiful Grade II Listed building. It was built between 1510 and 1560 with lathe and plaster and a heavy timber frame. It is set on the village green in the centre of Great Bardfield, a medieval conservation village that has changed little in the past five hundred years.
The house is the much-loved family home of Nessie and Peter Poston, who now offer luxury bed and breakfast in the country house tradition.
Bucks House is furnished with antiques, oriental and Turkish rugs and many works of art. We enjoy welcoming guests from all over the world and try to ensure that all our guests enjoy their stay and will want to return.
Our lovely Georgian sitting room, walled garden and patio are available for guests to use.
There are two good pubs in the village, both minutes from Bucks House. They serve excellent food. There are many good restaurants in the area and we can make reservations and book local taxis.
Further afield, there are many places to visit. We are 20 minutes from Stansted Airport, 40 minutes from Cambridge and 20 minutes from Bishops Stortford, Great Dunmow, Braintree and Saffron Walden. Thaxted is three miles and Finchingfield 2 miles.
The Great Leighs race course is a ten minute drive. Wedding venues in this area include Spains Hall in Finchingfield, Leez Priory, Audley End House, The High Barn, and the Fennes Estate. The Unex Towerlands Equestrian Centre is 15 minutes drive on the outskirts of Braintree.
East Anglia is a beautiful rural area, unspoiled by mass tourism. Beautiful villages and small market towns abound.
We believe in using only the best ingredients for our breakfasts. We use free range eggs, Suffolk dry cure bacon, home grown tomatoes whenever possible and sausages from the East London Sausage Company. We cater for vegetarians as well as meat eaters.
